Setting Goals and Focusing Your Intention

Focus and Intent are really important in your successful network marketing business. First, I want you to think about what you want out of network marketing business, or whatever type of business you are working with.

Why you are building this business?

  • Do you want a little extra money each month?
  • Enough to make the mortgage payment each month?
  • Do you want to provide a full time income for your family?
  • Do you want to retire?
  • Do you want a new washer & dryer?
  • Perhaps a new car?
  • Maybe you want to fund your children’s education.

You need to know WHY you want success in this business and become laser focused on your goals. Not only that, goals become much more effective if you put them in writing.

Whatever your reason, write it down so you can see it, internalize it.

Put your short term and long term goals in writing. This is a very important step that very few people seem to realize the importance of.

    In 1953, researchers interviewed the graduating seniors at Yale University and asked them if they had a set of written goals for their lives.Less than 3% of the Yale graduates had such a list.Twenty years later, in 1973, a follow-up study was done:The 3% that had the written goals when they graduated from Yale in 1953, were worth more than all the other 97% of the class members combined.Isn’t that a truly compelling reason to sit down right now and
    formulate your own written goals?

 

I like the monthly goals because the keep me focused on what I need to do to get to my long term goals.

Here are a few ideas:

  • My check will be $2,000. per month
  • I will spend _________ minutes or hours on training audios or articles every day.
  • I will talk to ________ people every day.
  • I will pass out ________ drop cards or business cards per day.
  • I will work on my business for ________ hours per week.
  • I will spend ________ hours each week sharing meaningful information in Social Networks.
  • I will personally sponsor ________ people.
  • I will talk to ________ people every day.
  • I will make ________ follow up calls every day.
  • I achieve Silver by ________ .
  • I achieve Gold by ________ .
  • I achieve Platinum by ________ .
  • I achieve Diamond by ________ .

You should have target goals and action step goals to help you reach the target goals.

Set your goals, then work toward them. Adjust the goals as needed. Once you reach a $2,000. per month check, increase the goal.

I do this monthly because I need to check myself every month. I also keep focused that way & make sure I am doing the things that will bring results. Your goals will need to be changed as time passes.

One way I have been using to keep my bigger income goals in front
of me is to make a pretend check from my company. I scanned a check and then made alterations to make a check for the amount I was setting as my first income goal. Once I hit my first target, I celebrated my abundance and made another check. I have done this several times over the years. I keep the check in front of me on my desk. I see it every day as I am working.

Today I saw a post on Facebook that goes along with this idea.

This is a practical exercise in intention. When you write these checks, you are aligning your intention with the universe, signaling that you are ready and willing to receive. Doing this every month simply re-affirms that intention.

Consistency Is A Key To Success

Consistency is one of the most important qualities for success in anything, even more so in network marketing. Far too often we see people hopping from one network marketing company to another. In the beginning they are excited and motivated but it doesn’t take long and they are discouraged. People are so focused on wanting success right now that they aren’t willing to focus and consistently building their business over time. When success hasn’t come in a month or two, they figure it’s the company and they move on to another opportunity. This is such a HUGE mistake.

You need to stick with it and be consistent. Find the few things that work for you in building your business and do them every day.

Successful network marketers do something for their business EVERY DAY! Even when you are on vacation.

Or how about when you are working at your regular job? I have often had distributors tell me they don’t have time to work on their business since they have to work full time. I say, “Wonderful! How many people you cross paths with every day! Do you have your 30 second commercial ready?”

Successful marketers are in marketing mode every day, everywhere. We don’t build our business in spurts, working for a little while, then neglecting our business for days or weeks.

What about your email? Do you check email at least once a day? I have had distributors who say they are serious about building their business but they don’t check email.

Are you subscribed to newsletters from your upline and other success coaches? Are you consistently learning and sharing with prospects and downline team?

Do you keep your contact information current on your web site and your marketing materials? This is another one that always amazes me.

Are you consistently using your company’s products? It seems funny to have to say that but, over the years I have been amazed at the number of distributors who aren’t really using the products. If your company has a lot of products, why not try a new product every month. Become a product of the product.

Decide what you are going to do – Set Goals
Work consistently toward those goals every day.
Those goals should become good habits.

Success in this business has more to do with what’s inside of you. In fact, it is entirely YOU. That’s why I am always talking about the success mindset and working on yourself. It doesn’t matter what company you are with, if you don’t face your fears and clear the things that are holding you back, you will never have much success in any network marketing endeavor.

In the beginning, I had a MAJOR fear of being a leader, but I had a burning desire to succeed in this business so I faced that fear. I didn’t know about EFT back then but I kept proceeding forward in spite of my fear. Many times struggling with the fears and dealing with self sabotaging patterns. I am soooooo grateful I learned about EFT which was wonderful for actually clearing that fear and many others that held me back.

Personal Growth Results in Business Growth

Network Marketing is the best business to be in for personal growth because your business can only grow to the same level you do.

That quote is soooo true. In any business, you need to learn and study in order to be good at what you do.  Do you have a library card? You can find a lot of wonderful books and audios in the library that will help build a success mindset.

We all have areas of strengths and weaknesses.  You are responsible for your own success in this industry.

In the beginning, I had a fear of being a leader of a large group of people. I realized that, to be successful in network marketing, you MUST be a leader. If I was to have any success in my business, I had to face that fear and overcome it. I began studying successful leaders and what they did for success. Then I applied what I learned.

No matter what area of the business you feel weaker in, press forward and face your fears. There is, no doubt, someone else who has overcome the same obstacle and you can learn from them.

Success Is “Easy To Do…”

People often ask me how I became so successful, in a relatively short period of time, while many other people in our company did not. The answer is simple: The things I found easy to do, they found easy not to do…

For example, I found it easy to set the goals that could change my life. They found it easy not to set the goals. I found it easy to read the books that could affect my thinking. They found it easy not to read. I found it easy to attend the classes and the seminars, and to get around other successful people. They said getting around other successful people probably wouldn’t help…

If I had to sum it up I would say, what I found easy to do, they found easy not to do… A few short years later I’m a millionaire and they are still blaming the economy, the government, and their company’s policies…and yet they neglected the basic, “easy to do” things.

In fact, the primary reason most people are not doing as well as they could, and should, can be summed up in a single word: neglect.

It is not the lack of money—banks are full of money. It is not the lack of opportunity—much of the free world, continues to offer the most unprecedented and abundant opportunities we’ve seen in the last six thousand years of recorded history. It is not the lack of books—libraries are full of books…

Indeed, everything we would ever need to become rich, powerful, and sophisticated is within our reach. The major reason that so few take advantage of all we have is simply, neglect.

Neglect is like an infection. Left unchecked it will spread throughout our entire system of disciplines and eventually lead to a complete breakdown of a potentially joy-filled and prosperous human life.

Not doing the things we know we should do causes us to feel guilty, and guilt leads to an erosion of self-confidence. As our self-confidence diminishes, so does our level of activity. And as our activity diminishes, our results inevitably decline. And as our results suffer, our attitude begins to weaken. And as our attitude begins the slow shift from positive to negative, our self-confidence diminishes even more…

Therefore, if you want to reverse the downward spiral of neglect and become rich, powerful, and sophisticated, my suggestion is this: The next time there is a choice between, “easy to do…” and “easy not to do…” choose the easy to do basic business-building activities that will allow you to create the life and lifestyle of your dreams!
