Don’t Let The Economy Keep You Stuck In Your Business!
“When obstacles arise, you change your direction to reach your goal; you do not change your decision to get there.” — Zig Ziglar
There will always be obstacles but how are we going to react to them when they do arise? Will we sit down in defeat or will we make the necessary adjustments?
For many people, the economy is an obstacle.
As a leader of a large downline with many legs of group volume, I am able to see how some distributors are letting the economy effect their business in a negative way. When I talk to the ones with a dwindling group volume, they make statements like, “The economy is bad and NO ONE is buying anything!”
NO ONE??
As I am observing my own downline with many group volume legs, I can see some leg group volumes thriving and growing. With my own eyes I see proof that your energy can affect your group volume. The ones who have a good attitude and have good abundance energy are growing. These ones see the network marketing industry as a solution to people’s financial situation. We have a solution and we care enough to offer it to people who would like to change things.
The ones that are fearful are stuck. They can’t see past the economy. They are missing that they have help for people who would be willing to help themselves. This is why they see no growth in their business and some actually give up.
Take a look a the short video below. The first time I saw this video it was being shown at a leadership training event. It is pretty funny but it does make for a good illustration on how we might be acting in our business, especially these days with the economy the way it is. Many people are all locked up in fear and not knowing were to turn. It DOESN’T HAVE TO BE THAT WAY!
Don’t be like the people stuck on an escalator.
Remember, network marketing can be a solution for people who want to supplement their income. Your products are also likely to be an answer to their economic situation. Your health products can help people be healthier and spend less money on doctor visits, fewer days missed of work. That is just one example.
Think about the ways your business is a help to people. Then use that to shift your attitude and your abundance energy. I also recommend using some EFT to help shift your energy toward abundance.

Thanks Michael.
Melodie – Thanks so much for sharing this. The video is really funny to watch, yet I know I’ve allowed myself to be just like the 2 people standing there screaming for help when all I had to do was take a step.

Hi Debi,
I love that video too. I saw it at a leadership training and when I found it online I had to use it.
Nice touch on the video Melodie!
If only people will stop the silliness of blaming others and waiting on them to come to their rescue.
Having an abundant mindset with the juice of great energy is key when it comes to running a business and having it run effeciently.
Let me see how I can put this simply… Obstacles are merely simple tests prescribed for us so we can get out of our own heads and do the requirements to prove we are limitless.
I really LOVE the video!!!
Thanks for sharing your thoughts with us through your post.

So true Jaclyn.
Hello Melodie
Because so much is said about the economy it seems many people are letting the economy effect their business and life in a negative way. Your video is an excellent illustration of how fear can have an impact on our life. Napoleon wrote these words, \”The only thing we have to fear is fear itself.\”, for President Franklin Roosevelt. You give two powerful solutions network marketing and EFT

Hi Perry,
Yes. I see so many people giving in when their business is a solution. EFT can be a big help.

Hi Melodie ~ You make some really great points here. There are so many that are just ready to throw in the towel because they don’t feel that they are getting the results that they want.
I think the video is a great example of how people just give in. All I wanted to say to that guy was to just walk to the top and you’ll be fine. It could have been running backwards.
Often success is just a few steps away.
Thanks for an inspiring post.

Hey Melodie,
You are so right! Although the economy is suffering, network marketing is thriving. You just have to find the right people to share your products and business with.
Problems are challenges, challenges are opportunities!

Ha Ha Melodie,
Great post and great video…..
It’s so true, some people live life that way.
Fear can be just like that….
All that you really have to do is move forward and you can usually solve your problems….

Very true James. Even small movement forward is progress.
Hi Melodie….love this video. You are so right….the state of the economy represents an enormous opportunity for the network marketing industry and is helping many get themselves out of financial trouble. I am interested to read about how you are seeing people’s attitudes affect their business. It really does come down to mind set in the end. Thanks for sharing your insights.

I agree Louise. Network marketing can be a solution to many people’s situation in this economy. Mindset is huge.
Hi Melodie,
I love this video. I am going to recommend all my teams go look at it!
You are absolutely spot on with your observation. While there is no doubt that it is tougher for many people out there, if you focus on it, you are on the slippery path of destruction. Better to focus on what you can do about it and use it to inspire you to become evenmore creative.
I like the idea of getting income in $100 lots. If you want more money, just build more $100 a month systems. One internet marketer I know has around 1,000 of these he built up over time, and he is not complaining about the economy!
The answers to challenges are always there – if we have the right attitude.

Thanks John. Yes, there are always answers. Network marketing is a big answer to people if they would just realize it.
Melody,
If we are open to our Creative Imagination, we will be listening to ideas when we get stuck in a jam, like those folks on the escalator. If we want something bad enough, we will look for another way. I’ve been told to Plan, Do, Review, Adjust. Periodically we should do this and make adjustments if something isn’t working well.
Great post, Melody.
Have a wonderful week,
Lynn

I agree Lynn. Plan, Do, Review, Adjust is a great formula to follow.
Great video Melody! I think attitude plays such an important role in our success or failure. The economy is the economy – there will always be ups and downs in life, there will always be stumbling blocks – it’s up to us to turn them into stepping stones to a better life. Thanks for the inspiration!

Yea Marquita. Attitude is everything.
HAHA!
I loved watching the video and the reaction of the couple on the stuck escalator!
On a serious note, the outer economy and the inner economy of peoples’ subconscious are entirely two different things; they’re not the same!
And, people with entitlement mentality will be the ones expecting to be spoon-fed.
Let them get on a stalled escalator first!

Very true Yasser but people let the economy affect their subconscious. It doesn’t need to be that way. We have control if we only take it.
This was a great post Melodie.
Just the video alone was perfect in it’s message.
Any idea what this commercial was actually about?

Hi John,
The video was about heart health, Becel Heart Health Makeover. Apparently making fun of laziness.
The longer version of the video is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oXCuGvsThEw
Hi John,
Thanks for sharing. That was a funny video.
Take care
Melodie,
The video was a hoot. Thank you for that.
It certainly is all in our perspective, how we view the situation. Two people can look at the same scene and come up with totally different occurrences. We are stuck if and only if we say so.
Many thanks for your thoughts.

PS Just getting into EFT after a long period of resistance. Sound familiar? LOL

Hi Melodie,
Great post and video…. the video still has me laughing.
Once we can get past excuses and take responsibility for our current state of being, then we can progress forward.
Thanks for sharing!

Hi Melodie,
I loved the video. It certainly gets to the point! No matter what we have to keep moving forward through any obstacle. It shows how lost and confused people can be when they don’t understand that their perception is stopping them from moving forward.
If I run into an obstacle, I look at it as a challenge to conquer and move on. It works!
I like Lynn’s contribution of Plan, Do, Review, and Adjust is very helpful for us to keep in mind as we are working our businesses!
Raena Lynn
That was a pretty funny video, thanks for sharing! You made some good points in your post about the willingness of some people to succeed. With some people though, if it weren’t the economy it would be another excuse. Some people are just full of them. Thanks again for sharing.

Hey Melodie,
Lol! That video is hilarious Melodie although it is a bit unrealistic! The two people stuck on the elevator I can completely understand and I hope that they did get off safety, but two people without cell phones … come on, like that’s going to happen … Lol!
All joking aside, your message is timeless and clear … don’t let obstacles block your road map to success. Sometimes it does become necessary to change direction but let your destination stand fast, success awaits.
Thanks for sharing this Melodie, the video gave me a good chuckle.
Kevin
This is such a great reminder, especially the video. I watched the Last Lecture, and I found out that obstacles are placed in our path to test how greatly we desire to attain our goal. Next time I encounter an obstacle, I’m going to remember the escalator
Hey Melodie,
First, I love the video. I hadn’t seen it before but it should be a must watch for anyone trying to accomplish anything, and who let things stand in their way.
In fact, I may borrow that video to use for a post of my own if you don’t mind… there are so many ways to interpret it!
I agree with you about network marketing — you must be totally sold on the business model AND how it can help your customers, otherwise, you won’t do well. This is a huge stumbling block for many, given the negative publicity that NM receives from the ill informed (pyramid scheme, etc.). They must rise above the noise and understand what NM has done for so many people, like yourself.
Thanks for the great post, Melodie!
I think there is a collective mind in any group of people working toward the same goal or objective. this is commonly know as the “mastermind principle” where the collective mind creates a greater energy than any of the individuals on their own. Based on what you’ve said it holds true both positively and negatively according to the groups overall attitude and outlook….Great insights.
Hi Melodie,
Our perspective and view on the world plays such an important role in the level of success that we achieve. I actually found the escalator video to be a pretty sad statement although thankfully, unrealistic. I especially likek the quote by Zig Ziglar. Thanks for sharing that.
Haha… that video is hilarious!
You are so right on when you say it’s all about the energy. I’m sick of people making excuses that the economy is the problem. In fact, this “bad” economy is providing some pretty amazing opportunities in the home based business world because more and more people are looking for some other type of business that is RELIABLE. We let fear get in the way too often instead of taking action and learning from our mistakes.
There is so much opportunity out there… if you just align yourself, you will make it happen. Thanks for the great post.

That video couldn’t have backed up your point any better than if you would have shot a video yourself. It is priceless. Thanks for sharing it as I’m going to incorporate that into my stories I use to prove a point.

Hi Melodie,
That silly little video holds such an important message!
I am most definitely of the mindset that network marketing is the answer to a lot of people’s problems. I think these tough times should be a boom time for the entire industry for a million reasons!
Thank you so much for this post, I think a lot of people will take great value from it… and… I’m sure we can all relate to those people ‘stuck’ on the escalator at times!
All the best,
