EFT – Release Emotional Blocks To Network Marketing Success
There is a statistic I have heard many times over the years that only about 3 percent really make any serious income. I don’t know if that percentage is accurate but I do know there is a lot of failure in this industry. It’s not just this industry actually. There are lots of areas where people struggle with success.
Most blocks to our business success are based in FEAR.
I want to share a handy little technique that I learned a few years ago. I use it to help in releasing fear and other negative emotional blocks. It’s called Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT). This is a technique I wish I had known about in the beginning of my business.
EFT is a form of psychological acupressure that uses tapping instead of needles on acupuncture points on the face and body. This tapping is combined with verbalizing the problem.
The originator of EFT, Gary Craig, learned that all negative emotions are caused by a disruption in the body’s energy system. The energy system is made up of meridians in Chinese medicine. Tapping on these meridian points while focusing on the negative emotion can help reverse the disruption in the energy.
Negative emotions around certain areas of our business end up as obstacles, or blocks to our success. We all have things that make us uncomfortable. For me, when I began my business, I had an intense fear of being a leader. A leader must be visible, in front of the team and demonstrating the way for others to follow.
One childhood trauma that contributed to my fear was being abducted by a stranger. Even though I escaped from my abductor, it left an impression on my subconscious mind and has effected the way I function in all areas of my life. I have had fear of standing out and being noticed. Being too visible felt dangerous for me.
This is a problem when you enter a business where the only way to be successful is to become a leader.
I struggled with being a visible leader for several years. To get the courage to act in spite of my fear, I read lots of books and listened to audios, over and over and over. Jim Rohn and Tony Robbins were a couple of favorites.
Then I learned Emotional Freedom Technique and began using it to release a lot of the negative energy around things in my business as well as other areas of my life.
How to Do Emotional Freedom Technique – EFT
The basic EFT sequence is pretty easy and takes only a few minutes to learn. With a little practice, you will be performing each round in under a minute.
You will be tapping with the fingertips of your index finger and middle finger and with only one hand. Either hand works just as well. Most of the tapping points exist on either side of the body, so it doesn’t matter which side you use, nor does it matter if you switch sides during the tapping.
When you tap on the points outlined below, you will tap about 5-7 times. The actual number is not critical.
The EFT Points
KC = Karate Chop
EB = Beginning of the Eye Brow
SE = Side of the Eye
UE = Under the Eye
UN = Under the Nose
Ch = Chin
CB = Beginning of the Collar Bone
UA = Under the Arm
WR = Inside of Wrists
TH = Top of Head
You can also tap the fingertip points. I sometimes tap these points discreetly when I am in public. Each finger can be tapped at the base of the nail.
Next: Focus On Your Problem
Think about the issue you want to release negative stress around.
The basic EFT setup phrase goes a little like this:
“Even though I have this _____________, I deeply and completely love and accept myself.”
The blank above is filled in with a brief description of the negative emotion or other problem you want to address.
While tapping on the Karate Chop Point, say your setup phrase 3 times.
Here are a few examples of EFT setup phrases for business owners:
“Even though I have this fear of being a leader, I deeply and completely love and accept myself.”
“Even though I have this fear of success, I deeply and completely love and accept myself.”
“Even though I have this fear of failure, I deeply and completely love and accept myself.”
“Even though I am not motivated to talk to people about my business, I deeply and completely love and accept myself.”
“Even though I have phone phobia, I deeply and completely love and accept myself.”
Once you have tapped your setup phrase 3 times, then use a short reminder phrase on the other points.
For fear of being a leader, you could say, “fear of leadership” or whatever short phrase you want that keeps your mind going along that theme.
Don’t get too worried about the exact wording you use. Just focus on the negative emotion you want to clear. There is an EFT technique that I use all the time called “Tap While You Gripe.” You just start talking and tapping. I like this technique if I am really upset about something or if I just don’t know where to start.
You don’t need to say things out loud. You can be thinking the words as you tap. Just focus on the negative emotion while tapping.
I have recently written an E-Book on EFT for Network Marketers and Other Business Owners. Please visit the link if you would like more information on EFT.

Melodie,
EFT fascinates me. Last week I used it to hone in on a childhood issue that had been setting thee for many years. Am not sure of the results at this point, but am willing to keep using EFT to see if those old emotions can be purged.
Your article lays out each step very clearly. I’ll refer back to it in the future. Thanks a lot for laying it out so well.

I have been fascinated with ET for a while. I cleared a bunch of things from my childhood. I used it to remove my fear of flying too. I was so stressed out when I had to fly, which I do several times a year for business. Last year I was traveling and I had no stress at all. I was loving every minute of it and I just kept noticing there was no fear. It is one of my favorite tools.

This is amazing, I am going to try it because I have a weird fear, a fear of air mattress, every time I sit on one I am so afraid that it will pop that I do not apply my full pressure to it. Hoping this works.

I agree with Darlene – I like how you laid out the steps and I will be referring to it again myself.
I was introduced to EFT recently and attended an EFT Webinar. I followed along with the demonstration on the Webinar and I was amazed at how well you are able to tap into your inner feelings and beliefs. It is a great technique and works very well.
If you search ‘EFT’ on YouTube, there are a number of great videos that walk you through the process as well.
I was reading a book by Joe Vitale this weekend and Joe talks a lot about EFT as well. You know when something like this keeps appearing, you are meant to incorporate it into your life.
Thanks for the great and very useful info in this post Melodie!

Thanks. I’ll check that out.
Melodie,
I have a few questions.
Do I tap on the same side of the body or the opposite side?
Or do I start on the same side and then switch to the other side?
On the karate chop points, am I tapping with the fingers of the other hand on each of those points?
When I get to the points under the arm and on the wrist, do I cross over to the other side?
Melodie Kantner Reply:
August 3rd, 2010 at 11:06 pm
You can tap either side or alternate starting on one side, then shift to the other side. Sometimes I tap both sides. Either way works.
On the Karate chop point you can tap with the fingers from the other side. Sometimes I tap the Karate chop point on the steering wheel of my car when driving. You can also rub the points instead of tap.
What an amazing and unique tip.
I have somewhat programmed myself to not worry or care about what people think about me. This has re leaved me of any and all fear I had. And boy I had a lot of fear. It took me years to overcome this. . That fear held me back for years. It wasn’t until I was successful that I was able to accomplish this.
I am constantly asked how by people how to overcome fear, my answer is you have to be comfortable with yourself and not worry about what people think. As you and I know that is easier said than done.
This method seems like a much better option. I will now be referring people to this information.
Thanks for sharing.

Hi Melodie -
I was first introduced to the concept of EFT about two years ago through a program called “I Am Power”, which combined EFT with other personal development practices and philosophies. Your post is a much needed reminder that I need to start putting it into practice again.
You are to be commended for your brave sharing of a past fear and its cause. In the business world, too many of us hide behind a wall of perfection and total success, when in reality all of us have fears and weaknesses that need to be overcome. It is only in sharing that we can truly begin to overcome those things that hold us back from true personal success. Thank YOU for sharing!

Thanks. Oh, I love the sound of “I Am Power!” I agree, we all have areas of weakness. I wish I knew about
EFT in the beginning of my career in network marketing. It would have been an easier job building my business. EFT is one thing I teach my downline. It helps us proceed in spite of our weaknesses. Sometimes our weaknesses get turned into strengths.
Hi Melanie,
Wow! I must have been living under a rock or something because I seem to be the only one who hasn’t heard of EFT before
I’m sure I will now.
It is true though that fear is probably the biggest obstacle that holds us back. I am definitely going to try this technique and see what happens.

I personally specifically have blocks regarding money. Does EFT help in that area? Have you experienced anything relating to money?

I use EFT all the time. I have used it to unblock lots of money issues. Fears about not being good enough, fears about having too much money, what will people think, will I be a target for people wanting money or stealing money. Fear that it’s not spiritual to have money, what if I lose it? Lots of other things. I will cover a lot of these money blocks in the Ebook I am writing.
One block I really had to deal with was poverty mentality. I started my network marketing business at a time when we were in a desperate financial situation. I felt hopeless but I knew this business was the answer to our problems. I didn’t know EFT when I started but I was able to have quite a bit of success but still had scarcity and poverty mentality. When I learned EFT I cleared those blocks. It really effected my income.

Every one of us is plagued by fears that hold us back, whether we have had a traumatic event such as yours or not. We owe it to ourselves to find a method that works for us to become clear of our issues.
I recently wrote a post about another clearing method, called EmMatrix, which I have recently used. There are many techniques available to each one of us, we just need to do the work to find one that fits.

Dang Melody –
I’m an EFT resistor from way back and now it seems it may be time to revisit it.
Thank-you for the reminder!
I have no idea why I never wanted to be in the spotlight – but I do find that with a little age on me now, I’m caring less and less about what other people think and am trusting that my ‘perfect audience’ will be the result.
Maybe this combined with the 30 day video challenge I’m doing right now will put those fears (the resistance) aside and let me really tap (no pun intended – lol) into the me I’m meant to be.
Phooey that sounds so cliche – but it’s where I’m at right now.
Thank you so much for your leadership (even over the years!) – you’ve made a lasting impression

Hi Melodie,
I really enjoyed reading your post. I have recently become interested in EFT so your simple description made me even more intrigued in the process.
It’s funny how the subconscious takes on so much while we wouldn’t normally connect past life events to our behaviour today. Your example of being abducted and not wanting to step out and be a leader explained it so well.
How long have you been doing EFT? and is there a book you would recommend reading to get started?
