What Economic Crisis?
“We are continually faced by great opportunities brilliantly disguised as insoluble problems.” ~ Lee Iococca
The economy is bad these days. It is effecting people everywhere. I see friends and family suffering and I hear them complaining about their situation. All the while my business is THRIVING.
Network marketing tends to be one type of business that does well in times of economic down times. One reason for that is because people are looking for ways to supplement their income.
Really, the way you look at it has a lot to do with whether your business will thrive or take a dive in a bad economy. I see it in my own downline. Some are thriving and growing their business while some are having their sales volume fall off. The ones who are dropping in sales volume are moaning about how bad the economy is and saying they can’t get anyone to buy anything. They are projecting poverty mentality and it is literally shutting down their business.
Your mindset, the words you use and the energy you radiate have a lot to do with how successful your business will be, especially in a bad economy.
When I began my network marketing career, over 13 years ago, I was going through a tough time financially. My energy and belief was at a really low point. At the time, I was also a struggling artist doing art shows and selling Rainbow Cleaning Systems on the side. Both of those involved sales. Both of those I was failing miserably at.
At the time I hadn’t yet learned about mindset and the power of the Law of Attraction. I just knew I couldn’t sell anything if my life depended on it. I was radiating the energy of desperation which actually repelled buying customers.
Since that time I have spent a lot of time learning about how the words we use, the emotions and the energy we radiate effects how successful we will be. If we are worrying about the economy and how expensive things are, that sends an energy that actually repels sales. This is not the energy we want if we are intending to build a successful business.
It is important to have a strong belief in your business and your
products. Not only that, but you also need to realize and BELIEVE that you have a potential solution for many people’s economic crisis.
Some of the greatest growth in this industry happens when the economy is bad. Are you going to see this as an opportune time to build your business or are you going to join the masses and be paralyzed with fear?

Hi Melodie,
Belief, in your business, your products, and most importantly in yourself can make or break you.
No matter how strongly you believe in your business model or products unless you believe that YOU can be successful you will fall short.
That’s the great thing about mindset, we get to choose what we believe in. If it is not working we can change.
Of course, belief without knowledge is faith, which is what everyone needs.
Faith in yourself.

Hi Rebecca,
I haven’t been doing the art shows at all for years since my network marketing business is my full time income. I do my art for my own pleasure but I don’t want to pack up all the stuff and go on the road.

Yes!! “Your mindset, the words you use and the energy you radiate have a lot to do with how successful your business will be, especially in a bad economy.” Network Marketing truly can make or break an individual when the economy is tough around us. Great words of wisdom. I will pass on your article to others in my group.

Network marketing can be the source of freedom. It’s largely the mindset.

Melodie,
Here people go worrying about something they have no control over. Step into responsibility and create your own life without worrying about others.
We have the option to choose, so we can choose wisely by going our own way. It is all about your very own mindset about your success that will change it all for you.
Woo Hoo, what a life full of choices!

I like this post and love that quote you used at the top. (Too lazy to scroll back up to spell his name right through all of the wonderful comments here.) I’ll just say the quote at the top.
Hey, I had a rainbow vacuum cleaner and really loved it. Had to sell it because I needed some money really quick. Damn that.
As Gary Vaynerchuck said, “It is never a bad time to start a business unless it is a mediocre business.” It seems you started a great business!
Keep up the great work.

Hi Melodie,
You are so right!! It’s all about what’s “between your ears”!! We tell our people “if you think summer vacations will cause your business to slow, it will!!…or If you believe the Holidays are a bad time to market, you’re right!!” But in reality we have had our biggest month in July in one company and became #1. In another company, December was one of our biggest booms!! So it’s all about your thoughts and beliefs and what you SPEAK into the Universe!!
Instead of saying the economy is down, say”The economy is experiencing a shift”
Thanks Melodie for all you do to educate everyone. You are a wealth of knowledge.

Melodie,
Mindset is critical to success in business. If a person puts out negative energy through complaining then they are going to get negative results. On the other hand, putting out positive energy will yield them positive results.
Good thoughts.

Melodie,
Great post, thanks for reminding us all that regardless of the externals, we do have control over our MINDSET. And certainly, the more open we are to possibilities, the more opportunities will show up in our lives and we will be more prepared to benefit from them.
It’s a “bad” economy, yet Apple Computers is having record sales and has outgrown Microsoft. It’s all about creating what people want, and even about having a sense of what they want before THEY even know.
Thanks again,

Great post Melodie and something that should be said/pointed out. Poverty consciousness is a sure way to become your own worst enemy. Your support network (family, friends, colleagues) are crucial. You want success? Hang out with successful people and don’t buy in to someone elses excuses.
Thank you for such an inspiring post.

Thanks for a great perspective on the economy and our response to it. In any business we will find that our mindset makes a HUGE difference in our success, or lack thereof.
And it isn’t enough to say to yourself, “If I refuse to look at the bad stuff that’s happening, it will go away.” You have to look it square in the eye and say, “it doesn’t matter. I’ll get past this because I deserve more and choose more.”

I totally agree with you, Melodie. Our energy and attitude radiate into every aspect of our lives, from the work we do, to the relationships we cultivate, to the choices we make, to the lives we ultimately lead. If we believe in ourselves and what we stand for, we have a better chance at surviving and growing and thriving.

So many people could benefit from the type of business we have. Network marketing makes great supplemental income. Even better if people can experience the freedom of full time income. If we can do it, so can others.

Melodie,
Great reminder to not let the fears of an uncertain economy seep into our mind and attitude. As long as we keep knowing the true value of what we offer, and we keep our mind focused on that, we will continue to attract business regardless of what is going on around us.

Yes Melodie our mindset is everything. Our business is thriving as well for one our products are personal development but we have the mindset that we can assist anyone to change their lives forever.
Because I don’t watch the news I don’t even know that the economy is bad except when I get the odd email about it. Bottom line is why even entertain or allow the idea into your mind.
